Brief History of the Culaylay Church of Christ

In the fertile fields of Barangay San Juan, around the year 1999, a story of faith and fellowship began on Bro. Lito Batoon’s farm. Farmers, toiling under the warm sun, not only helped tend the humble hillside farm, but also found themselves touched by the teachings of the Bible. Through dedicated Bible studies, around 20 souls, including the Garcia, Rabang, and Viernes families, prominent residents of Culaylay, were baptized into the faith. These newfound brothers and sisters in Christ knew a grander place of worship was needed.

Their initial gathering space was a simple nipa hut chapel, a testament to their commitment. But thanks to a generous donation from Bro. Robert “Bob” Buchanan, a plot of land was secured, laying the foundation for a more permanent home. Years later, Bro. Lito Batoon, his family fueled by faith and fueled by his work in faraway Australia, spearheaded the construction of a new chapel. Together with his family construction of various facilities including the Church Baptistry and Classroom was made possible. Brethren from neighboring congregations, like dedicated Bible teachers Bro. Daniel Beronilla (Umingan Congregation), Bro. Edgar Beronilla (Encarnacion Congregation), Bro. Melencio Mata and Bro. David Mata (Talugtog Congregation), Bro. Eliseo Rodriguez, Bro. Renante Rodriguez, Bro. Clemente Beronilla (San Agustin Congregation), Bro. Isais Rigos (ACU), Bro. Joseph Sibayan (Carranglan Congregation), and Bro. Froilan Beronilla, all played a crucial role. Their combined efforts ensured the Culaylay Church of Christ flourished.

Today, the legacy of those first farmers and the unwavering support of neighboring congregations continues. Bro. Lito Batoon, Bro. James Mira, Bro. Edgar Beronilla, Bro. Froilan Beronilla and Bro. Clemente Beronilla now serve as teachers and preachers, ensuring the Culaylay Church of Christ thrives for generations to come. Their story is a testament to the power of faith, hard work, and the spirit of community that continues to nourish the church nestled in the heart of Culaylay.
